Fighting Rest

It's amazing how as a family with small kids, an almost two year old, and an almost three year old, we are completely at the mercy of their naps. Completely. At. Their. Mercy. A missed nap or a too-short nap (x2 toddlers) pretty much cripples any chance for a nice day for anyone in their wake. Today was one of those days. They woke up too early this morning, fought like little crazy men to avoid an off schedule morning nap, etc.
Exhibit A:

The grumpies chased away any potty training interest and my sweet lovely babies were beyond irritable. Momma and Daddy were begging for mercy... Or at least bed time. : )
Rest is important. Rest is needed for healing, growth, recovery. For functioning... sanely. When we don't rest we not only feel miserable, but our perspective shifts. Small problems seem huge. We are more self focused.
I'm actually thankful for today. Even though I wanted to pull my hair out several times, and even cried out of frustration, I needed the reminder... Of how important rest is, not only for our bodies, but for our souls.
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

My soul needs rest. Why do I fight it? I'm so like a stubborn toddler at times, fighting my rest, and as a result: fussy, whiny, wanting my way. Good lesson for this mama.
I'm hoping my girls rest well tonight and that these lovies come back tomorrow:
